Checking vaccines is the job everyone at a kennel hates and the one that matters most. A phone photo of a carbon copy, handwritten dates, a clinic stamp over the important bit. Pawteli reads it, a person confirms it, and from then on it looks after itself.

The pet parent photographs the certificate from their own page, or a staff member uploads the PDF the vet emailed. No account, no app to install.
It gets read
Vaccine names, the date given, the expiry, the clinic and the vet, pulled off the page. Where the expiry was worked out from a duration rather than printed, that is flagged.
A person confirms it
Staff see the certificate and the fields side by side, fix anything wrong, and tap save. What is in the boxes is what gets stored, never what the model said.
It chases itself
The expiry is tracked from then on. The owner is reminded before it lapses, and the front desk cannot check that pet in once it has.
A wrong date is worse than no date
This is why the reader is built to admit what it cannot see. It returns an empty field and a flag rather than a plausible guess, and a human confirms every record before it is saved. The model fills in the form. It never decides who gets through the door.
What it tracks
Each facility picks which of these it requires. A pet missing a required one, or holding a lapsed one, cannot be checked in without someone deliberately overriding it.

- How does Pawteli read a vaccine certificate?
- Someone photographs the certificate or uploads the PDF the vet sent. Pawteli reads the vaccine names and dates off the page, including handwritten ones, and fills in the form. A staff member sees what was read, corrects anything wrong, and taps save. Nothing is stored until a person confirms it.
- What if the photo is blurry or the date cannot be read?
- It says so. Fields it is unsure about are flagged for a human to check, and a date it cannot read is left empty rather than guessed. Many certificates print a date given plus a duration like '3 year' instead of an expiry, and where the expiry was worked out that way it is always flagged for a glance.
- Which vaccines does it track?
- Rabies, DHPP, bordetella, canine influenza and leptospirosis for dogs, and FVRCP for cats. Each facility chooses which of those it actually requires. Vets write the same vaccine a dozen different ways, so Pawteli recognises the common brand and abbreviation forms too.
- Can a dog with an expired vaccine be checked in?
- Not by accident. Check-in is blocked with the reason named, saying which shot lapsed or is missing. A person can override it deliberately in two taps, because software that simply refuses gets worked around, and the override is recorded.
- Are owners reminded before a vaccine expires?
- Yes, automatically. A nightly job emails the owner once as the expiry approaches, using a window each facility sets, and once more if it lapses. Saving a new certificate resets it, so nobody is nagged twice about the same thing.
